A new creative way to display your photos

I'm loving this creative idea of using a postcard rack as an alternative for frames. I've seen the idea before but never so well executed as in the picture below. I believe I have a new search term for eBay ..

Ik vind onderstaand idee heel erg leuk en creatief; gebruik een (oud) postkaartrek als een alternatief voor de standaard fotokaders aan de muur of op de kast. Ik had het idee al vroeger gezien, maar het is de eerste keer dat het me echt aanspreekt op foto.  Ik geloof dat ik een nieuwe zoekopdracht heb klaarstaan voor 2dehands (de Belgische Marktplaats) ...

IKEA PS 2014

Ikea's eigen designcollectie, IKEA PS, is pas vanaf april beschikbaar. 

Maar ik ben zeker dat ik niet de enige ben die niet kan wachten ... Een vooruitzicht!

Ikea's own designcollection, IKEA PS, is only avalaible from April. 

But I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't wait any longer .. A preview!

 

 

Bye bye Expedit, welcome Kallax!

Vorige week hoorde ik, als IKEA-fan, het droevige nieuws dat Ikea hun iconische boekenrek EXPEDIT terugtrok uit hun collectie. Als rasechte Ikea-fan geloofde ik het zelfs eerst niet.

Dit populaire meubel is waarschijnlijk reeds door iedereen al eens gekocht of geïnstalleerd in hun leven.

Maar geen paniek, deze verlaten het assortiment niet volledig. Ze worden enkel wat getweaked en krijgen een nieuwe naam. De nieuwe boekenkast gaat niet langer door het leven als Expedit, maar als Kallax (wel benieuwd of men blijft spreken over Expedit in enkele jaren). Het ontwerp is wat smaller, heeft afgeronde hoeken (kindvriendelijker) maar de binnenste kubussen behouden dezelfde afmetingen (geen paniek dus dat je dozen niet meer zouden passen)

 

Ik vind het in iedere geval wel een goeie update, want ik was de wat logge Expedit beu gezien en verkies wel de smallere randen. Ook zakelijk goed gezien van Ikea; als ze van elke kast 1cm minder hoeven te produceren, betekent dit een gigantische besparing op jaarbasis. Wat vind jij ervan?

Laten we samen in stijl afscheid nemen van onze goede vriend, die overal ter wereld huizen siert.

 

Last week I’ve heard the sad sad news that Ikea is withdrawing their all-time iconic item: the EXPEDIT bookcase. This popular piece of furniture has been bought by each and everybody at least once in their life.

But do not fear, they do not leave the assortment completely, they only get tweaked a little bit and renamed. They will no longer be called Expedit, but Kallax (curious to see if people still keep calling them Expedit in a few years!). The design will be a bit smaller, will have a slight corner bevel (child friendly!) but the inner cubes will have the same dimensions (so do not fear your storage boxes will not fit anymore).

 

I personally believe the new sleak design is a nice update, as I was a bit bored out by the chunky old model. Also, businesswise a good decision; if Ikea can save 1cm on each bookcase, this must mean a huge saving in costs each year.

 

Let’s says goodbye to our beloved friend Expedit in style, as he has been used in so many ways all over the world.

How cool is this lightning, created by Dutch artist Bertjan Pot?
He even exhibited at the biennale INTERIEUR in Kortrijk, which I visited, but failed to notice apparently. It must create a great ambiance (and conversation starter!) for a dinner party!

Hoe geweldig is deze lamp, ontworpen door de Nederlandse ontwerper Bertjan pot?
Blijkbaar zelfs al te zien op de biennale INTERIEUR in Kortrijk, wat ik had bezocht, maar dus niet heb opgemerkt .. Het moet een geweldige sfeer geven (en wat een gespreksstarter!) boven de eettafel bij een feestje.

WELL, THAT WAS GREAT! Work was closed for Christmas holiday, so I was home for 2 weeks. I decided not to feel obliged to do anything, but relax. No obligations on professional side and no obligations for the blog and man, did it feel great!

Anyway, there is nothing I love more than a fresh beginning and a clean slate.

2014, Bring it on!

And what better way to start 2014 with the new collection of Ferm Living. They announced their new collection today and as a big fan I had to check it out! Lots of brass, copper, wood, paper, geometric patterns and soft colors. In other words, something for everybody's taste!
