Small living

We weten allemaal dat we kleiner moeten gaan wonen in de toekomst. Niet alleen voor het groeiende mensenaantal op deze wereldbol, maar ook door de stijgende energiekosten hebben we weinig keuze. Dit is zelfs nu al te merken in wereldsteden als Hong Kong en New York, waar de prijzen voor vierkante meters de pan uit swingen. Lifestyleprogramma ‘Lust for Life’ maakte een reportage over een Barcelonees omgebouwd Legohuis van 20 vierkante meter. Ik ben volledig te vinden voor minimalisme en ingenieuze opbergoplossingen, maar vraag me af of dergelijke oplossing wel leefbaar blijkt op lange termijn? Volgens mij is een dergelijke oplossing enkel mogelijk als er meer zaken buitenshuis kunnen gebeuren, maar voor een huismus als mezelf vind ik dit toch al moeilijk. Desalniettemin (fantastisch woord, toch?) zou ik er met plezier eens logeren, om alle snufjes uit te proberen en het hele concept zelf te ondervinden.

 

Wat is jullie mening hierover? Gaan jullie ermee akkoord dat we kleiner moeten gaan wonen en minder energie verbruiken? Of net niet? Zie je jezelf wonen in een dergelijk concept? Zou je dit kunnen toepassen op je huidig leven?

We all know the concept of ‘living’ has to be modified in the near future, as we will be forced to live smaller. Not only the rising population, but high energy costs will force us to. This trend is currently present in cities as Hong Kong and New York, where prices per square meter are abnormally high. Lifestyleshow ‘Lust for Life’ (in Dutch/English, but you don’t need to understand Dutch to understand the concept) created a report on a renovated Lego-house of 20m2 in Barcelona, currently redesigned as a rentable studio.

I’m all pro on minimalism and ingenious solutions to avoid clutter, but am still wondering of these puzzle-solutions are livable for the long term. I believe that such solution is only doable if lots of chores can be done outside and you have to spend less time inside your house. I can’t imagine myself living in such place (I would miss the coziness of a real home), but would definitely want to try it out. Only then I could actually write a real review ;).
